An English classic for the generous table: Mason’s oval ironstone tureen in the beloved “Vista” pattern, its cobalt countryside vignette encircled by a luxuriant vine-and-grape border. The gadrooned rim and lion-mask handles are left cream-white for crisp contrast, while a sculpted knop crowns the domed lid. At 27 × 23 cm and 16 cm high, it holds a hearty stew yet sits elegantly at centre-stage.
First registered in 1813, Mason’s perfected “Patent Ironstone” — a robust, chip-resistant body that democratised fine dinnerware. Vista arrived in 1890 and stayed in production until the 1970s, prized for its romantic landscape and intense, acid-proof blue. Whether brimming with winter soup, seasonal fruit or simply anchoring a blue-and-white collection, this mid-century example carries forward two centuries of Staffordshire craft in everyday service.
