This upright stoneware jug wears a deep chestnut glaze that pools to near-black in the recessed base and around the pulled handle. The pared-back cylinder rises to a softly pinched lip, creating a precise pour whether you’re topping up the water jug or filling a vase with garden stems. At 20 cm tall, its lean silhouette slips easily onto a crowded shelf yet holds a generous litre.
British potteries of the late 1960s championed durable stoneware for everyday dining, pairing industrial slip-casting with rich iron glazes inspired by Scandinavian ceramics. Unmarked but expertly finished, this piece embodies that era’s quiet utility—equally at home decanting brunch mimosas, anchoring a mantel arrangement of dried flowers, or standing solo as an earthy colour block against matte walls.
Condition
Excellent – glaze is even and glossy, rim and spout free of chips; only minimal shelf-wear to base.
