Thrown in coarse, iron-rich clay and finished in a soft, celadon-meets-sage glaze, this shallow 20 cm dish balances quiet utility with sculptural flair. Hand-pulled lugs coil into ram-horn scrolls, offering an easy grip for table-to-oven service (or simply a tactile detail for the shelf). Concentric throwing rings and peppered speckles celebrate the maker’s process, while the low 4 cm profile keeps the silhouette understated.
Throughout the 1970s a generation of British potters—fired up by Bernard Leach’s call for “honest” craft—favoured muted glazes and workhorse forms that moved seamlessly from kitchen to table. This piece channels that movement: ideal for olives, sea-salt roast nuts or a bedside catch-all. Pair it with raw linen and dark wood to amplify its wabi-sabi calm.
Condition (rating)
Excellent – no chips, cracks or glaze crawl; natural speckling and throwing rings intact
